Children's Bladder and Bowel Physiotherapy
Supporting you and your children.

Support for children and families with continence difficulties
Bladder and bowel difficulties are very common in childhood and can have a big impact on a child’s confidence, comfort, and day-to-day life, as well as on family routines and stress levels.
I offer specialist children’s bladder and bowel physiotherapy, supporting children and young people with continence difficulties through assessment, education, and practical strategies, using an evidence-based and child-centred approach.

I have experience working with children with bladder and bowel symptoms within the NHS and provide a calm, supportive environment for both children and parents.
Who's it for?
This service may help children and young people who experience:
-
Constipation or difficulty opening their bowels
-
Daytime bladder leakage
-
Bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis)
-
Urgency or frequent toileting
-

-
Toilet anxiety or fear of using the toilet
-
Difficulty recognising bladder or bowel signals
-
Ongoing continence difficulties despite trying basic advice
Support is always tailored to the child’s age, development, and confidence, and sessions are led at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

How can physiotherapy help?
Bladder and bowel problems in children are often linked to:
-
Habit and routine
-
Pelvic floor muscle coordination
-
Posture and breathing
-
Constipation and bowel loading
-
Anxiety or avoidance around toileting
Physiotherapy focuses on conservative, non-invasive management, helping children and families understand what is happening and how to support healthy bladder and bowel function.
What does an appointment involve?
Appointments typically include:
-
A detailed discussion with parent/carer and child
-
Assessment of bladder and bowel habits
-
Review of toileting routines, diet, fluids, and posture
-
Education about how the bladder and bowel work
-
Practical strategies for toileting, routines, and confidence
-
Pelvic floor and breathing exercises where appropriate
-
Written advice and a clear plan to take home
All assessments are non-invasive, and a parent or carer is always present.
