What exactly is
a Pregnancy Assessment?

Pregnancy brings incredible changes to your body, but pain or leakage should never be ignored.

A Pregnancy Assessment is a one-to-one session—available at home or online—providing specialist, evidence-based physiotherapy to help you stay active, comfortable, and confident as your body adapts. Drawing on advanced clinical training and extensive NHS experience, I’ll guide you to reduce pain, move safely, and prepare your body for birth and recovery.

After the session, you’ll receive a clear, easy-to-follow advice sheet summarising recommendations and next steps, so you feel informed, supported, and confident throughout your pregnancy journey.

Pregnancy Assessment FAQ's

What is this appointment for?

This appointment is ideal if you want to discuss or have any questions about your pregnancy or if you are experiencing any of the following: - Pelvic girdle pain (PGP) - Lower back pain or hip discomfort - Bladder leaks or urgency - Bowel leaks or urgency - Pelvic organ prolapse symptoms - Support with birth preparation to ensure you are in the best place for birth and postnatally

What can I expect from a Pregnancy Assessment?

I will take a detailed history from you including this pregnancy and any previous pregnancies/births. We will discuss any areas of concern you have and what you would like to gain from the session. I will then do a physical examination, including screening posture, checking core plus addressing any areas of concern. I will also assess pelvic floor muscles. In pregnancy this is not always done with an internal examination. Often this is achieved by an external visual assessment. If you have any questions regarding this, do not hesitate to contact me and we can discuss further.

Is pelvic health physiotherapy safe during pregnancy?

Yes! Physiotherapy is completely safe and highly beneficial during pregnancy. Treatments and exercises are tailored to your stage of pregnancy and comfort level.

Can physiotherapy help with pelvic girdle pain (PGP)?

Yes, following assessment, I will provide appropriate manual therapy as well as simple, safe exercises for you to do at home.

Will I be given exercises to do at home?

Yes! Self management is key for maintaining changes and I can provide specific exercises as well as advice on peroneal massage, breathing techniques, and exercises to help your body and pelvic floor through pregnancy, labour and postpartum. I understand the pressures of pre and postnatal life and therefore I give a tailored plan taking in to account busy lives!

What should I wear to the appointment?

Imagine you are going to a low impact yoga class. Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement, such as leggings or loose-fitting trousers.

Can you help me prepare my pelvic floor for birth?

Yes! I provide guidance on perineal massage, breathing techniques, and exercises to help your pelvic floor adapt to labour and support postpartum recovery.
